What is Ecstatic Dance?

Ecstatic dance is a sober dance that encourages participants to relax and flow with the music in a way that releases stress and judgement resulting in a euphoric state.

Run by live DJ’s, ecstatic dance uses an array of genres within electronic music to create an emotional journey. Genres usually include tribal, trap, base and house and some drum and bass if the mood allows.

Dance allows connection with oneself and others sharing the dance floor. Dancers usually leave ecstatic dance feeling lighter, renewed and connected.

How Ecstatic Dance runs

The dance takes places over a 2-hour live DJ set and starts and finishes with a short opening and closing circle led by a Ceremony Leader. This is to arrive and set an intention in the beginning, and closing with lying down relaxation. There is no teacher as such, but we ask you to follow a few guidelines:

Guidelines for Ecstatic Dance

1. No talking. Ecstatic Dance is a silent practice -you are welcome to communicate with others with your body language, but please keep words outside the space.

2. No shoes. Barefoot dancing helps us ground ourselves by creating direct contact between our feet and the earth

3. No drugs/alcohol. Ecstatic Dance is a conscious practice embracing mindfulness.

4. Phone-free zone. Encouraging safety & presence. Be here now.

5. Respect of self and other. We ask participants to take responsibility for themselves, but also to watch out for others and be mindful of their personal space. Consider your actions & how they can affect the space.

6. Stay dressed please; tops & bottoms on for any & all genders.

7. No late arrivals past 07:30PM – this is so we can ensure a contained safe space to let out whatever comes forward.
